From Republic to Empire: Rome and the United States

The Transformations and Modulations of Free Societies

While my academic background is in political science, and my great hobby is fiction, I've always been a big fan of history. Certain epochs, or eras, in particular, strike my interest. And in those areas I've delved quite deeply, to the point that I feel comfortable speaking and writing about them even though I lack any professional, scholastic training or certification as a historian.

I love ancient Rome. Best of all, I think the Roman example is one that can tell us a lot about our own times. If you're interested you can click on the "More" tab at the top and go down to my blog. There you can find two of the chapters from this book. That will give you a taste of what I'm trying to do here - which is to show how the parallels between the two examples, Rome and the United States, can inform our understanding of our present situation.

For those who have already read the chapters on my blog, here is a link you can follow to Barnes and Noble

The ebook is available there for less than the cost of a decent cup of coffee.
